Safe: Fosamax (alendronate) and other diphosphonates are helpful in maintaining bone density in older patients w/ bone osteopenia; usually documented w/ bone densitometry. Atypical proximal femur and hip fractures have been seen in patients on diphosphonates for long periods of time, but these are relatively rare.See your pcp or an endocrinologist for evaluation if you have questions about treatment alternatives.Gl!
