Zoloft (sertraline) and sleep: Compared to tcas, ssris are generally less sedating because of their high selectivity for serotonin receptors. Ssris can suppress rem sleep and delay rem latency too, but they increase awakenings and reduce sws at the same time. One psg study shows sertraline minimally increases sleep efficiency and reduces nocturnal wakefulness time, which may benefit depressive patients.

Sometimes more sleep: Sertraline is thought to sometimes promote more sleepiness throughout the day and night although this is a clinical impression of some doctors and many antidepressants can cause this same effect. However, everyone is unique and may not experience the same response to sertraline. I would discuss this more with the prescribing physician. Stay safe!
