Yes.: Hymens come in all shapes and sizes. There is so much variability in the appearance of a hymen that it is not a good 'test' for determining whether a woman has had intercourse. It is very common to get tears or lacerations in the hymen from exercise, tampon use, or other things. There are hymen 'remnants' or tissue parts remaining at the entrance to the vagina. These are normal.

Unusual question: As females age the hymen is often torn from routine activities such as exercise and the use of tampons. There is no way to discern the cause of any specific laceration. Any laceration can bleed.
