My girlfriend has tore the ligaments in her ankle. she has been given an ace bandage only, she can't walk how can i help her?

Find another doc.: If she can't walk, she may have a severe ankle sprain, in which case she needs more than an ace bandage. If her regular doctor doesn't "get it, " ask for a referral to a sports medicine doctor or orthopedist.

Crutches: Rest (no weight till comfortable) ice (1st 72 hours) compression elevation (get swelling down) crutches can help her get around for first week or so. Tylenol (acetaminophen) (no more than 8 tablets a day) or Motrin can help with the pain as well as the afore mentioned ice. Pain can be severe for the first week or so but if it persists get reexamined in the next week or so. Otc brace or prescription from doc.

See a specialist: See a podiatrist in your area, she may need a boot or ankle brace. There are various degrees of ankle ligament tear. Small tears can be treated with ace bandage alone but more severe tears can require a boot and possibly crutches.
