Varies: You can walk as soon as the pain is minimal. A walking boot, cast or ankle brace can help reduce the pain when walking. See an orthopedist.

Sometime: A ruptured ligament needs to be repaired. If complete rupture then inquire about having a repair. Often times it takes less time to heal.
