Cold/Dry air: Typically this type of "pain" comes when air comes in quickly and doesn't pick up moisture to be gentle on your throat lining. Usually breathing slower or having a moist/wet handkerchief on your mouth to help humidify air coming in would be good. This is especially true if the airways are sensitive as in asthmatics and people with allergies.
