A member asked:

Is it possible for you to take amitriptyline with celexa (citalopram)?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not advisable: It is not advisable to use citalopram and Elavil (amitriptyline) together since there is an increased risk of serotonin syndrome, which although quite rare can happen. A more important issue however is that citalopram and Amitriptyline can both prolong your qtc interval on your ekg. This can lead to a fatal arrhythmia. It would require ongoing ekg monitoring. Please discuss these issues with your prescribing physician.
