Thyrotoxicosis means thyroid hormone levels are high - due to hyperthyroidism, excess thyroid hormone intake, thyroiditis. Thyroid storm is a life threatening emergency due to very high thyroid hormone levels (almost always due to hyperthyroidism) which causes hyperthermia, rapid heart rate, confusion, liver dysfunction.
