PAIN: Yes it is possible but should not be prolonged or intense. Rinse with salt water and do your home care. Please double check with your dentist.

Not always : It really depends on the extent of tartar present and the condition of the gingival tissues. Ones threshold to pain also comes into play. But the benefits significantly outweigh the temporary discomfort if any. Hope this helps.
