A member asked:

What does "amylase is more sensitive and lipase test is more specific" mean?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

See below:: Amylase is elevated more often in patients with panreatitis, but elevated amylase, unless substantially high does not mean pancreatitis. When lipase is elevated the person is more likely to have pancreatitis. See this site for general explanation of these terms http://gim.Unmc.Edu/dxtests/reviewof.Htm.
