Atypical, not mistak: The question is difficult to answer because i don't know what you had previously been on. Combining antidepressants is becoming more common these days. Both of the antidepressants are approved for the conditions that you have. Whether it's necessary to use one or both depends upon your prior history in response to the medications. Although serotonin syndrome is a possibility, it must be viewed as rare.I have seen two cases in 30 years of practice, and none of them involved ssris.I see no reason to think that your psychiatrist made mistake here.

I agree but...: I agree with the other doc who responded. These meds are commonly used for ocd. But the real question is whether they are helping you. If not, then your condition is not being adequately treated. Also, drugs alone may not do the job. There are psychotherapies for ocd (specifically, a therapy called "exposure and response prevention"). Meds + therapy is the best treatment, not meds alone.
