Hypertension: Goals of hypertension are commonly less than or equal to 140/90. At 160/100 it is wise to use medications to keep the blood pressure lower as significant problems may arise from elevated pressures over a long period of time.

Hypertension: Hypertension should be treated. If repeated readings are greater than 140/90 despite lifestyle changes such as weight loss and lowering salt intake, initiation of medication may be necessary.
