I have hypertension. i'm on propranolol and it controls it well. at home, my b/p is 120/80 or lower. when i go to the doctor, it's 150-180/90-100.why?

White coat: hypertension. It is common and is believed to be due to anxiety associated with a doctor visit. Other factors: using too small a BP cuff at the doctor's office.The amount of rise in your BP suggest possible overactivity of your flight or fight responses and might suggest the need for adrenal or other testing. Home (which you are doing) or ambulatory BP monitoring can help sort this out. Good luck
