Causes relaxation: Botox, a neurotoxin works at nerve muscle junction and weakens the contraction or reduces the spasm.

Urologists question: The cosmetic Botox does not travel. If you have a spastic bladder, you should consider discussing this option with a urologist.

Remote or direct : Botox tends to act locally by blocking the nerve messages which make muscles move or glands to secrete. There are rare reports of distant effects. However Botox has been used, off label, for a variety of reasons including spastic bladder with involuntary muscle contraction which is blocked or minimized by direct injection of botox. Remote effects are likely minimal.

Check with Urologit: My use of Botox as a facial plastic surgeon is purely for cosmetic reasons. Relaxation of facial muscles in order to reduce or prevent wrinkles. Reduction of a "gummy smile" and elevation of down turned corners of mouth can also be achieved with botox. You need to check with a urologist as to the effect of Botox on a bladder.
