A member asked:

Can gall bladder removal somehow lead to crohn's disease or other intestinal problems?

No: The only side effect of any significance after cholecystectomy is a temporary change in bowel habits due to the body adjusting to a change in bile salt metanolism. Any other side effects are very rare.People with crohn's disease, however, may have changes in bile salt metabolism that leads to gallstones.

Not IBD: It will not cause crohn's, but having GI symptoms after a gallbladder removal is not uncommon.

15% : About 15% of patients have GI issues after gb removal. Crohn's development is unrelated to gb. And, of course GI issues persist if the removal did not address the real cause of the symptoms in the first place.
