Many causes: Low platelet counts (thrombocytopenia) can be caused by many things. One of the most common causes is itp (immune-mediated thrombocytopenic purpura), where the body makes antibodies that recognize a patient's own platelets. This can be self-limiting requiring no treatment, to requiring strong medicines. A count of 99 (=99000), is not dangerous, but must be monitored. Hem-onc doc can find cause.
