Does benadryl (diphenhydramine) cross through the placenta to the fetus?

Good question: I am not aware of any study on this subject but it would not likely do any harm either. Since Benadryl (diphenhydramine) does cross the blood-brain barrier, i would not be too surprised if it does cross the placenta as well- even thought they are not identical barriers.
