Should i give my six-month old benadryl (diphenhydramine) for a very bad cold? he can hardly breath through his nose and cannot heat.

It's not helpful.: Use saline nose drops and suction the mucus from the nose as often as needed. Also, elevate the head of the crib.If your doctor ok's it, use a humidifier in the room during sleep.Cold and cough meds are proven not to help and can cause severe side effects. If these actions don't help enough, he needs to see his doctor.

No: It is best to use saline drops in each nostril leave there for about 20sec. Then use bulb suction. Do this as often as 3 to 4 times a day to help your little one breath. Also run a humidifier and provide plenty of liquids, preferably pedialyte. If his symptoms persist for more than 7 days or if he is unable to drink and is not having at least 3 to 4 wet diapers per day then he should be seen.
