TMJ: Tmj or temporomandibular joint pain can cause jaw pain, clicking, or locking of the jaw. It can cause a sense of fullness in the ears, ringing in the ears, and generalized dizziness or being off kilter. Treatment of TMJ includes heat to area, soft diet, antiinflammatories like ibuprofen, sometimes a muscle relaxant, and a night guard for the teeth..

See dentist: It could be some form of muscle imbalance associated with beginning temporomandibular joint dysfunction. Have you tried placing warm facecloths over the jaws to see if this alleviates some of the pain and reduces the 'feeling of locking up?' you should see your dentist to have this issue evaluation.
