Yes: Lyme is ultimately a clinical diagnosis; tests can help confirm but have both false positives and false negatives. It can take 6 weeks after infection for the western blot to turn positive and it is important to treat as soon a possible after becoming infected. Esp. Yes: It is appropriate to start Doxycycline if you suspect primary lyme disease before any test results return.
