Esophagus: It sounds as if you may be having some esophageal dysfunction. There are non propulsive tertiary waves which may occur in patients, which cause pain with swallowing , due to spasm, as the contractions are not productive. I suggest you see a gastroenterologist (gi specialist) who can assist with diagnosis. Good luck.

What food?: Have you noticed if there is any particularly type of food/drink that exacerbates the symptoms? Spicy food? Acidic food? And what's the timing in relation to food? Right off the bat, a number of things come to mind, such as esophageal spasm, esophagitis, reflux, even gallstone or pancreatitis. More info would help. Tx.
