Yes,actually!: The gallbladder only contracts when it is told to squeeze. You can prevent this by avoiding fatty foods and spicy foods. If you feel like you could live the rest of your life without eating those then it is realistic to be able to avoid surgery. There is always a risk however that a stone could still get stuck in the wrong place and become a big problem.
