Probably not: The controlling mechansms in the brain give asymmetric innervation to all the body organs. Inflammation is induced by the brain so this could be the answer. On the other hand, there may be some infection on the swollen side and not the other.

Very Well could be: It is very possible to get an infection on one side and not the other. It also could be just that the one side experienced more trauma during the procedure causing more swelling. If the swelling is quite painful to touch, becomes warm and pain begins to radiate, i would contact your providers office and let them know. Ice packs and anti-inflammatory meds can help. If concerned more call the office.

See an oral surgeon : Or the dentist. Pain and swelling following dental extraction is usually at its worst 24 – 48 hours after surgery, after that it should subside more and more every day and after 7 days stop. If pain persists or worsens, it may require attention and you should call your dentist or oral surgeon for follow up appointment.
