Benefits vs. risks: In general the small amount of radiation exposure from medical imaging studies is considerably outweighed by the benefits for the patient. Difficult to say.: Ionizing radiation is cumulative. Ct scans have high levels, while an ankle x-ray is probably minimal exposure. The important thing is to wear thyroid and gonad protection and only go for x-rays if it is medically indicated.
