See below: Pleurisy is a symptom-painful respiration. There are many causes. Often it is just a virus and the pain goes away spontaneously. To determine what the cause of your pleurisy is one would have to talk to you, examine you, and possibly order bloodwork. Discuss this with a physician.

X ray usually normal: Pleurisy is a symptomic diagnosis, usually on the basis of chest pain with breathing. Especially when the x ray excludes any other cause for the pain, pleurisy is suspected.
