Stop worrying: These are antigens on your tissue cells, much like blood types. It has basically nothing to do with her prognosis. Type i diabetes is a lifelong management problem where patient compliance make all the difference. The presence of these molecules isn't a sign of infection. I'm sorry you had a scare.

Genetic markers: Hla-dq2 and -dq8 are genes associated with autoimmune diseases, especially type 1 diabetes and celiac disease. She already has type 1 diabetes, but is also at high risk for developing celiac disease. Your doctor can monitor for this. You can't change genes, so there is nothing to do about it except control diabetes and monitor for other autoimmune disorders.
