When i tap on the left side if my upper abdomen, it sounds very hollow, as well as being painful.

Check it out: The most common cause of a hollow sound if you tap up there on the left would probably be air in the stomach, which is natural. But it's not normal that would hurt. Go see a doctor and get it checked out.
