Chronic Neck Pain: Facet injections may temporarily relieve pain from spinal degenerative joint disease. If the pain persists and you have failed physical therapy and other conservative treatments you should see a spinal surgeon. If this is just the first two episodes, seek physical therapy with cervical traction.

Cervical RFA: As a physiatry spine/pain specialist, if i perform a cervical or lumbar facet injection and the patient gets excellent relief but it only lasts for a day or two, i will suggest a cervical or lumbar medial branch block (mbb). The mbbs will essentially numb up the entire targeted joints for a few hours. If they get tremendous relief during that 3-4 hours, i'll perform a radiofrequency ablation.
