Bronchospasm: Airways are made of muscle tissue. Sometimes, that muscle can tighten up like a cramp - that's called spasm. Bronchospasm is seen when someone has a "reaction" to perfumes, allergies, strong odors or steam etc. You should have a pft (pulmonary function test) to evaluate your lung capacity. Other causes exist. You do need a checkup. There are treatment that would make the "suffocating" go away.
