See ORS: Best to see ors if swelling and tenderness persist> 48 hrs. Occ. Fractures can be missed or not seen on original x-rays ( esp. To scaphoid bone in wrist).

? Fracture/ligament: Pain in hand can be due to ligament injury or due to fracture of the scaphoid bone ;sometimes this does not show up on x-ray till 10-12 days later but as these fractures may not heal well, most hand surgeons will treat a patient as if they have the fracture by placing them in a cast from the start.If repeat x-rays confirm diagnosis then the cast is kept for 8 weeks. Ligament tears need splinting.
