My daughter recently just received a diagnosis that she had a small fracture in the joint of tip of her pinky finger and that there was a small flake of bone floating. fracture aside, what happens to the floating bone if just left on its own?

If left untreated, a floating bone can cause pain, inflammation, and joint stiffness. The bone can also potentially damage surrounding tissues and lead to the development of osteoarthritis. In some cases, surgery may be necessary to remove the floating bone and prevent further complications.
