Confusing question: Although some strep strains can cause kidney problems, early treatment usually avoids them. If the kid has a pre-existing kidney problem, the need for a biopsy is best determined by the docs who know him best. A recent strep infection would not require such an invasive procedure, but a significant change in kidney function might.
