Pediatric epilepsy , 2.5 yr male lgs diagnosis , what's the optimal age to do the vns surgery ? no improvements w/ several meds and combinations of meds.

VNS: There are a few treatments that are good options for lgs. These include onfi, the ketogenic diet and the vns. In my opinion the vns is a good option to hopefully decrease the number and severity of seizures... But it probably won't make the seizures go away completely. There is no specific 'optimal age', however you may not be able to find a neurosurgeon to place one at 2 yrs. Give it a try.

Optimal age for VNS: Failure of 2 or more medicines in combination. Between 12 and 18 considered investigational by most. Limited success with newer drugs like Vimpat (lacosamide) also have age restrictions.
