Yes: Mononucleosis is caused by a virus and also transmitted by sharing drinks and close contact at any age.

Yes: The mono associated viruses are transmitted almost as easily as a cold. Kids in daycare mouthe/share toys that produce a perfect setup to transfer a virus contained in saliva. Smaller kids often have a much milder case of mono indistinguishable from many of the other viruses they get.
