A member asked:

I wasnt aware that the person i kissed had the mono virus about 5 years ago, i understand the virus never leaves the body once you have it but is it still transferable at that point? like would it cause me to get sick now?

It is true that Epstein Barr virus (EBV), the cause of infectious mononucleosis, persists for life. However, that doesn't mean it is in saliva or transmissible to other persons: it is not, once the infected person has recovered from mono. Anyway, since almost everyone acquires EBV by age 30 (whether or not they get mono itself), almost everyone you will ever kiss had has it. No worries!
