Several options: Most GI docs use a narcotic and a benzodiazepine (often fentanyl or Demerol (meperidine hydrochloride) and versed) to relieve discomfort and anxiety as well as providing some amnesia. Propofol can also be used for deeper sedation but should be supervised by an anesthesiologist.

V sedation drugs: Probably versed, could be valium as well. I like valium for conscious sedation, but it lasts quite a while.
