A member asked:

I recently had lab work which had a moderately low vit d 25 (27), and a high vit d 1, 25 (128). no supplements or sun. why high 1.25? concern?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

1,25 di hydroxy: Vitamin d is generally not a reliable or useful test by most commercial labs. You 25 hydroxy shows a mild deficiency that could easily be resolved by taking 2000 units of otc vitamin d3/day with little expense and almost no risk. Talk w/your doctor. At your age you should probably be receiving 1500 mg of calcium/day as well - diet plus supplements if necessary.
