Sedation short lived: Often a medicine called versed is used to block your memory of the procedure but you will be "awake", alert and able follow instructions only you will likely forget the actual procedure. My were relaxed and have done well. You will not be able to drive afterwards only because your judgment/reflexes may be subtly impaired. You will need someone to drive you afterwards. Be sure do a thorough prep.

No worries: Most GI doctors use a combination of drugs to sedate patients for colonoscopy which include narcotics (to decrease any discomfort) and benzodiazepines, which decrease anxiety and often give patients amnesia of having the procedure at all. You should do just fine.
