Optional meds: A simple rule when using optional medications is to monitor outcome. If any symptom related med produces benefits you can detect, it is often fine to use them long term.If there is little if any detected benefit, there is no need to use it. I'm not convinced there is much to the teething idea.Kids like to chew on their hands when old enough to control where they go. It doesn't mean they're in pain.

Only if needed: Parents often over medicate kids for teething discomfort. Teething is a normal, natural process. Most kids don't really need painkillers. Try laying off the tylenol (acetaminophen) and only give it to them if you really see that they need it.
