How old?: How old is your child? It is possible that he is grinding, chewing on a hard substance, or he may have a deficiency. If he is a young child, discuss this with a pedodontist (children's dentist), who can evaluate what may be happening by looking at the teeth directly.

That depends: If the edges of front teeth are chipping off this is most likely from tooth grinding. If pieces are breaking off between back teeth this is probably tooth decay between the teeth. There are also some genetic conditions that can cause the enamel form incorrectly and shear off from normal use. You need to have a pediatric dentist evaluate your son and help you solve this problem.

See a dentist: Without pictures it is hard to know, as others have said if it is isolated to chips in the front teeth, it's most likely due to grinding. If larger pieces are breaking it may be due to tooth decay. See a dentist to evaluate.

Could be...: ...From grinding, malocclusion, enamel deficiency disorder, sports induced fractures, decay, nutritional deficiency , or so many other causes. Your child will have to be examined to be able to do a differential diagnosis. Have your dentist do evaluation. Referral to orthodontist or pedodontist may be in order.
