Should I breastfeed if I have hepatitis c?

Yes: Yes. Hepatitis c is transmitted by a virus in blood. There is no hepatitis C virus in breast milk, and hepatitis C has never been shown to spread via breast feeding. It may be prudent to temporarily halt nursing if mom's nipples are cracked or bleeding. If you are taking medicines to treat hepatitis c, you'll need to discuss whether those medicines are ok w/ nursing.

Is it true that brushing your teeth with carbonated water could be a good way to avoid hepatitis a?

Tap water has HepA?: If a person, especially in developing countries, thinks the tap water or well water is contaminated, then using bottled mineral water is safer. One can also boil water daily, and use it for drinking and brushing teeth. Of course, one can catch hepa from contaminated undercooked or uncooked foods, plus from touching contaminated surfaces and then accidentally transferring virus from hands to mouth.

Yes: Hepatitis b virus can cause either acute liver failure (liver failure early after infection) or chronic liver failure due to long-standing liver damage from hepatitis b through inflammation and scarring which can lead to liver cirrhosis in some individuals. A 21-year-old member asked:

Are there home remedies I can take for my hepatitis b infection?

No: No herbal or holisitc medications have ever been shown in randomized control clinical trials to control the hepatitis b virus or to prevent liver cancer or liver cirrhosis. There is some support that coffee may prevent liver cancer, but this has not been shown in hepatitis b patients.
