Teeth do drift: The drift is only slight. I had a molar removed years ago and it has never been a problem.

They can: Whether or not you remaining teeth, or teeth adjacent to, or opposing the extracted tooth will move will depend on the location of the extracted tooth, and your occlusion (bite). Your dentist can and should advise you of the necessity for replacing the extracted tooth if indicated.
