Cause and Duration: Pleurisy is an inflammation of the lining of the chest cavity and the covering of the lungs. Inflammation of this tissue is called pleurisy and the tissue lining the chest cavity wall has many pain fibers. Thus, the more pleura involved the longer the inflammation lasts; further, the longer it takes to irradicate the cause of the inflammation, the longer it will take the pleurisy to resolve.
