Ear infections: People generally refer to middle ear infections as "ear infections." outer ear infections are also fairly common. When an infection is present infected fluids travel by lymph vessels until they get to lymph nodes in the neck. These lymph nodes can become tender/sore causing neck soreness. Most of the time neck soreness is not present with ear infections.
