Wine: Wine causes facial flushing by one of two mechanisms. Any alcohol can cause this if a person as a deficiency in aldehyde dehydrogenase, which leads to the build up of aldehyde after alcohol ingestion. This will cause facial flushing. Also, wine in particular, has substances within it it, such as sulfites/histamines/tyramine, which can cause facial flushing.
