What does it mean to have incurable lung cancer?

Stage 4; some 3.: Unresectabe stage 3 or metastatic stage 4 lung cancer are not curable. The purpose of treatment here is not to cure but to palliate (reduce) symptoms and to hopefuly help patients live longer.

Cancer remains: In general, incurable means that the cancer is advanced and can not be removed or treated to the point that it disappears. That said, there are times when patients with "incurable" diseases (including cancer) can live many years with ongoing treatments to keep the disease (or cancer) from progressing. Unfortunately, for lung cancer, this is often the exception rather than the rule.
