Adjust dosage: Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) is an effective treatment for arthritis and autoimmune diseases. But in susceptible people, especially at higher dosages over 800 mg per day, it can accumulate in the retina surrounding the macula and cause changes in the vision which can sometimes be long lasting. If you failed a test, that you passed prior to the start of plaquenil, (hydroxychloroquine) then you should be evaluated by your ophthalmologis.

Team approach: I would repeat the test. Early toxicity causes paracentral scotomas. This should be correlated with changes in your macula, fundus auto fluorescence test and with previous testing and macular photos. False positives with corneal changes, or cataract. Your ophthalmologist and rheumatologist should discuss and decide together if the lifetime dosage could possibly be the cause of these changes.
