Disadvantages: female genital mutilation can lead to death, severe chronic pain, hemorrhage, urinary retention, urinary tract infections, keloid scars, strictures, fistula, incontinence, infertility, painful intercourse, painful periods, neuroma, recurrent infections, septicemia, transmission of hepatitis, tetanus, HIV ; difficulty with childbirth. Male genital mutilation.
