See your doc: In some states, a doctor needs to write a prescription for physical therapy. That is true in my state (massachusetts) . In other states a doctors prescription is not needed but insurance companies may need a doctors prescription to pay for it. Any actively practicing, licensed physician, nurse practitioner or physicians assistant working under a licensed doctor can issue a referral.
