Bruised tongue: A tongue could become bruised due to both intentional and unintentional biting. It may also be amalgam tattoos because of dental fillings, if you have them.

Tongue bruise: I know personally that you can badly lacerate your tongue from biting. The tongue is mostly muscle and usually repairs itself when cut. I did check with an ENT doc and he told me that in rare cases patients who cut their tongue may develop some scarring.
